From Metrics to Action: Sustainability event at UL

The MBAAI MidWest Chapter hosted an event on sustainability at the Kemmy Business School, University of Limerick in September.

Under the theme of ‘Metrics to Action’, our panel of speakers covered the essence of sustainability, and looked to future-proofing a sustainability strategy rather than reactive compliance. Professor Sheila Killian of UL walked us through the theory of sustainability and sustainability reporting, followed by an emphasis on practice led by Stephen Prendiville, Partner & Sustainable Infrastructure Leader at Deloitte.

Professor Sheila Killian is section co-editor of the Journal of Business Ethics, and associate editor of Accounting Forum. She serves on the editorial boards of Accounting, Auditing & Accountability Journal; Accounting, Finance & Governance Review; and Critical Perspectives on Accounting. Her research is mainly qualitative, and addresses issues of social sustainability, accountability and the common good, with a focus on professional expertise, social justice, tax policy and business school education.

Stephen Prendiville is a Partner in Deloitte Ireland, where he leads the firms Infrastructure & Real Estate Business and is a core member of Deloitte’s Sustainability leadership group. Originally from Limerick and a UL alum (2007 Business Studies), Stephen moved to Canada in 2011 where he worked with large cities to deliver sustainable mobility solutions as well as climate and infrastructure resilience advisory services. His work to date has included  large and complex infrastructure undertakings, covering over €50 billion in capital expenditure. Stephen has extensive experience in disruption and strategic advisory (including sustainability and decarbonisation linked change and opportunity), energy transition pathways, real estate and urban development strategy and social infrastructure projects.
