The MBAAI MidWest Chapter is delighted to welcome renowned management theorist and journalist Des Dearlove, co -founder of Thinkers 50, to the Kemmy Business School of the University of Limerick on Thursday, 24th October 2024 to talk on Certain Uncertainty: The New Leadership Landscape.
As we emerge from the fog of the Covid-19 pandemic and face up to the threat of once unthinkable wars in Europe and the Middle East, disrupted supply chains, and a global climate crisis, leaders from even the recent past would not recognise the world we now live in. Ever faster technological change is propelling us along at breakneck speeds, accelerating social, economic, geopolitical and environmental shifts. For the current and future generations of leaders, the only certainty is uncertainty. This presents unprecedented new challenges.
How do you lead in an unpredictable and increasingly volatile world? What are the new lessons that leaders must learn to survive and thrive in this VUCA (volatile, uncertain, complex, ambiguous) environment? Des Dearlove, co-founder of Thinkers50, shares the latest thinking on management and leadership and offers new perspectives on the role of leaders in the twenty-first century.
Des Dearlove is the co-founder of Thinkers50, the world’s most reliable resource for identifying, ranking, and sharing the leading management and business ideas of our age. A former columnist to The Times of London, and co-editor of the bestselling Financial Times Handbook of Management, Des is an associate fellow at Oxford University and a Visiting Professor at IE Business School in Madrid. Most recently, he is the author of Certain Uncertainty: Leading with Agility and Resilience in an Unpredictable World, and the co-author (with Lisa Humphries) of the forthcoming book, Connectedness: How the Best Leaders Create Authentic Connection in a Disconnected World.
The Thinkers50 definitive ranking of management thinkers is published every two years. Its Distinguished Achievement Awards, which recognise the very best in management thinking and practice, have been described by the Financial Times as the ‘Oscars of management thinking.’
Taking place in Room KBG-16 in the Kemmy Business School of UL, this event is free to members, who may bring a guest. Networking and tea/coffee from 6:15 pm, with talk followed by a Q&A.
