Event Details

The Association’s Southern Chapter is delighted to partner with University College Cork on a breakfast event on 8 March, taking place in the UCC Centre for Executive Education at which Professor Thomas Lawton will participate in a panel discussion on Geopolitics and Corporate Strategy: Navigating global competition in an age of uncertainty.

He will be joined on the panel by Pat Doyle, Southwest Regional Manager for the IDA and Bhagya Barrett, Founder & Director, Rebel City Distillery.

Escalating geopolitical tensions and disputes pose strategic challenges for corporate leaders and increase the cost and complexity of doing business across borders. In this seminar, Professor Lawton considers the shifting sands of international power and performance and asks how can Irish companies and policymakers compete in the new global landscape?

An award-winning international strategic management author, educator and advisor, Thomas C. Lawton is Vice Dean for Internationalization and External Engagement, Professor of Strategy and International Business, Academic Director of the UCC-Irish Management Institute and Director of the Global Competitiveness Institute at University College Cork. He is also Visiting Professor at the University of Surrey in the U.K. and at the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth in the USA, an Associate of the Møller Institute, Churchill College, University of Cambridge, and Editor-in-Chief of LongRange Planning, the world’s oldest strategy journal. Professor Lawton’s research focuses on business model innovation during corporate turnaround and international expansion, and strategies for stakeholder engagement and political risk management when entering and embedding in foreign markets. He has published eight books, including Breakout Strategy and Aligning for Advantage, and over fifty papers in leading scientific journals. He lives in West Cork. http://www.thomaslawton.com/
