Event Details

Michael Horgan was a normal, sports-mad 6-year-old when he was diagnosed with brain cancer in 2022. He died 18 months later. This tragedy has spurred his dad, Smurfit MBA alumnus Conor Horgan, to publish a book and set up a charity in his honour.

Following our Association’s AGM in the RDS Members Club on Thursday, January 29th, Conor will share his story in conversation with journalist Frank Dillon, from the trauma of a cancer journey to personal and professional re-invention, alongside the rigours of founding the sports charity Michael’s Fan Club, building a Board and a strategy, and publishing a memoir in tribute to his son. Conor, a past Board member, will be familiar to members of the MBAAI through his executive role for the Association over many years.

The fireside chat is scheduled to commence at 7pm and will be followed by a wine reception. The event is free to members, who may bring a guest. Note you must log in when booking to avail of free entry.

The registered charity Michael’s Fan Club aims to bring a smile to kids battling cancer through unforgettable sporting experiences, gifts from the stars and opportunities to connect with their heroes.

The memoir Is Maradona in Heaven? I have a son. He died. is available at michaelsfanclub.ie
