TU Dublin wins Annual Strategy Competition

TU Dublin beat off stiff competition from four other business schools to win the annual MBAAI National Strategy competition at Platform X at KPMG in Dublin.

The team, comprised of Tom Proctor, Xiaoyu Xie, Thokozile Phiri and Rachel Murphy, were adjudicated by a panel headed up by renowned strategist and disruptor Ade McCormack, who came over from London for the event. The participating teams had been tasked with the challenge of turning around the fortunes of an ailing oil company. They were given under three hours to devise a strategic direction for the company and present in front of the judges and guests. Over the course of the three hours, they were presented with fresh challenges related to HR, public relations, innovation, etc.

Teams representing DCU Business School, Dublin Business School, Open University and Queen’s Business School also took part. The judges alongside Ade were MBAAI past-Presidents Alacoque McMenamin and Robert Cooper.

TU Dublin Team Coach Dr. Eoghan O’ Grady said: “This competition challenges teams from MBA programmes across the country to apply those analytical, conceptual and interpersonal skills developed on their respective MBA programmes. I am delighted for the TU Dublin team and congratulate them on such a great performance. I am sure I speak on behalf of all teams in thanking the MBA Association of Ireland including of course MBAAI President Michelle Gallagher and all those at the MBAII for organizing such a fantastic event.”

Tom Proctor of TU Dublin won the Best Speaker award with Sacha Dekker of DCU taking the accolade for commendable speaker.
